There are times when I have a real NEED for what I consider "hard SF" - space travel set in the future, space stations, off-Earth colonies, etc. (Firefly, the Treks, Space: Above and Beyond,... even Gil Gerard's Buck Rogers, for crying out loud.) What's being called "science fiction" on other channels is all set in our time, as are the Stargates (although they do have space travel), so they're no good when I need a fix. And having a channel calling itself SciFi, while being mostly monster movies, mutant-animal movies, plague, horror, swords-and-sorcery, etc., is like finding out that your favorite steakhouse has gone vegetarian. The few future-space-travel movies they do show, tend to be the kind where some malevolent force comes aboard and kills someone, and the ship's crew are eventually pitted against each other. If they can't/won't show actual, real, hard SF, then they should change the channel's name, and let someone else be SciFi. x@y.zzz "Everybody should be free to do as much good as he wants to -- with HIS OWN money." --Milton Friedman, economist .
