The message is not DR> exported from the BBS message base and then stored in another message DR> base for NNTP. It is the exact same message. No gating. And so are you, there is a conversion. The FROM, DATE etc are all changed. And as I have explained that a gateway is the transaction between two seperate networks. I am not talking hardware as hardware cannot do it by it self. > QWK/Blue wave take the From Line, To Line etc and present it as it is to the > user. NNTP loses the To line, alters the From line and Msg ID. DR> Read OSDEBATE, NTHELP, LINUXHELP look at the kludges in those messages. DR> Notice how there are To and From information in them. Next go to DR> www.barkto.com and read the messages there with a newsreader. Notice DR> how all the messages thread properly, even messages created here in DR> FidoNet. That is a marriage between FidoNet and a private newsgrou DR> (gated if you well). None of what you claim above happens [cut] Okay, I will load up, soupgate or even BBBS and start reading them, by accident, I link someone else to the gate, who in turn sends it through to you which means that it goes out to the NG again. I can guarentee that BBBS here will not generate the same MSGID as you do. Which at the time, I tried to explain to you was why, I gate the Message-ID to MSGID, that way if by some chance it goes back out again, most NNTP servers will catch it as a dupe, and so will Fidonet.
