Let's put it this way:

I gate from SUSE.COM, I send onto Fidonet which reaches Shannon;s system, 
someone in turns gates the message from Shannon's system back to ftn, the 
original kludges are lost. And before you shout at me, I have seen it happen. 
SuSE specially asked that no NNTP access should be allowed which I ask fine to, 
whch is part of the rules and elist entry. But this was broken.
