This is not entirely the point...

What is being done about those FTP links, trying to contact him might be 
useless although should be done, he may not be in a position to "pcanywhere" 
into his system? If he is forward deployed in the current military engagement 
or otherwise involved in it from a support perspective, he may not be allowed 
to access the "net" for security reasons?
