As long as you are not _linked_ to the echo at these other sites, it should cause no problem.. you might want to check with them though. If these other sites have you in their configs, that could keep you from seeing all the messages. >>> Now every time I have attempted to link up to a file area, my >>> requests have been interpreted as a echo request which gets me >>> no where. Now the f-prot & norton a/v deffs would be another > story. ;> Now this is a case where a current FILEGATE.ZXX file should be used to see what the echotag names are. Way back, there was another Anti-Virus FDN that released those kind of files.. it used tags that started with VIR* - The FDN that is currently releasing these files though (and has been for a while now) is Ben Ritchie's Anti-Virus FDN, and it uses tags that start with AV* (AVWIN95, AVDOS, etc). If you are requesting VIR* file echos, they don't exist anymore.. >> So check with your uplink and find out how to address your message :) > Allfix says allfix or areafix or filefix. >>> However if there's anyone w/ an outdated filebone list in service >>> it's got to be *me*. :> >> I see that your copy of the filebone list is indeed ancient :) Old ZC >> > Bu..bu..but I updated it once already, how often am I supposed to > keep doing it? (the echolist is not much newer, & areas.bbs? ) ;> You should get yourself a copy of the FILEGATE.ZXX file, which now replaces the filebone.na file. There have been a good number of changes over time, like the AV* file echos Also, that is one thing I thought about early on with the FILEGATE.ZXX file. Originally, I did not hatch this file to FileGate sites "every week". I only released it when there were changes - that way people (I thought) would update their systems knowing something _had_ changed. Since the changeover is so new, I've started hatching it out every week, though. After a time I may go back to releasing it only when there are changes :) > -=> Yours sincerely, Paul (keeper of the really old crap) Williams <=- You should see some of the closets here Take care, Janis --- BBBS/LiI v4.01 Flag-3 * Origin: Prism bbs (1:2320/38) .
