Subj : File, file; who's got the file To : All From : Jack Yates Date : Fri Aug 24 2001 11:40 pm Lessee... Foxy works up an official route list, releases it in BACKBONE; folks, including and especially members of thew Z1B distribution group complain about her polluting the FDN. Foxy apologizes and ceases the practice, and sets up a separate FDN for this particular purpose; the Distribution systems and downlinks now get the Routelist in that FDN if they wish to receive it, without any problem. All is well. Ross releases NOBOGUS in BACKBONE and by doing so, pollutes the FDN. People bitch and scream, including members of the Z1B. Ross apologizes and promises that it won't happen again. All is well, except now everybody has a copy of NOBOGUS. Then Ross releases backbone files pertaining to his system in BACKBONE, people complaing that he's polluting the FDN. Ross apologizes, stops the practice and all is well. Now, The Routing Committee creates IRNROUTE, the Z1B calls it an "information file" and the Z1B releases it in the BACKBONE FDN. People are complaining that the Z1B is polluting the FDN, hubs are redirecting the file to other file-echoes to accommodate the wishes of their downlinks, and the Z1B refuses to create a separate FDN, refuses to apologize and continues to pollute the FDN because "We voted on it". So: Without suggesting that Foxy had a right to release the ROUTELIST in the BACKBONE FDN as it is the official Zone 1 list; without suggesting that Ross was an ass for releasing NOBOGUS to the public by *any* means, and without suggesting that Ross has no business releasing his version of a BACKBONE file in that FDN so long as he is a member of the NAB; and without suggesting that the Z1B is clamoring for attention by using the BACKBONE FDN as a means of maintaining a high profile and suffering from paranoia, I submit that: The Z1B could, and should create their own FDN for the purpose of distributing IRNROUTE and any other files pertaining to their operation with the exception of BACKBONE Z1B and BACKSTT.Z1B By doing so, their file maintains the same presence that the ROUTLIST does, and no less. Failing this, the distribution systems and other hubs have the right to create a FDN for the purpose of distributing IRNROUTE separately. I also note that if this practice spreads it's highly likely that the FDN will have different names, at the whim of the SysOp who redirects IRNROUTE; it would be in the best interest of the Z1B to pick the FDN they want to be known by, wouldn't it? Now then: I think that it's time for the "Ross and Dale" show to come to a close, ticket sales are falling off. Each party needs to realize that the other is *not* going to agree with him, and that the Z1B is *not* going away any time soon and neither the NAB nor the Z1B is going to control echomail distribution, and further, they should realize that the NAB and the Z1B are not the *only* distribution systems in Zone 1. --- McGuffey's Reader GoldED UNREG * Origin: (1:3613/1275.1) .
