Normally it is decided by the coordinator of that fdn. The backbone file echo was set up early on by George Peace, John Souvestre and Dave James, the three Zone stars present at creation of the "filebone". The filebone has since been replaced by the Filegate, not that it makes all that much of a difference. It would seem to me that in the absense as it were, not only of the 3 original "coordinators", but of the filebone itself, we are left to our own good judgement in this situation. I've tried to keep the description of the backbone file echo true to its original purpose as intended by it's creators. I was there at the creation of the Filebone, and was a part of the animal we created, too . > The same can be said regarding for each distribution systems' files. > Someone who doesn't like recieving Z1B or NAB files may decide to cut > BACKBONE because of the other. While we are at it...splitting things > and all...lets create two versions of BACKBONE. No, I don't see this happening... unless of course the various distributions decide to release each of their info files in a separate file echo, and requested that each of these separate file echos be created. That is always the choice of those who distribute their files. No one would ever say they could not do this, but neither would any one allow any one distribtution to forbid an info file from another distribution be released in the BACKBONE file echo. So that I'm clear here, I'm speaking of the BACKBONE.* files, the various FAQ files, and others of the like. Not routing files which do not belong in this file echo. >> The perspective is, its pathetically easy to create a FDN. > Agreed...but its also pathetically easy to show tolerance. At least > thats how I look at it...regardless of who is right or wrong...besides > there is no right or wrong...its merely preception depending on what > angle you view it from. This is true, and many have ignored it over the last several weeks, though a good number have not. It's not my place or Ross's, or David's to tell these people who complain that they just have to deal, when an alternative would be so easily implemented. I noticed in the WW echos today that your thoughts regarding a WW routing file were well thought out and discussion was good regarding the idea :) I also noticed that you mentioned (unless I dreamed it ) that this file would be of interest mainly to you folks who use the WW distribution system. I think that is the key to this whole thing. The information in the IRNRoute file is of no interest to a number of people. Take care, Janis --- BBBS/LiI v4.01 Flag-3 * Origin: Prism bbs (1:2320/38) .
