By hatching that file into the BACKBONE echo, the Z1B forced my system to pass it on to downlinks when I did not wish to pass it on, or even receive it. They used the fact that BACKBONE is widely distributed to send a file that doesn't belong in that particular file echo, without warning or asking those connected to the file echo if it was ok with them. Yes, I call this a "control tactic", as the Z1B clearly sought to control the distribution of their file on other systems, the operators of which had no indication that such a file would be distributed in the BACKBONE file echo. MG>> What they are doing amounts to file echo hijacking, pure and MG>> simple; and it is a reprehensible act. MB> Hijacked from whom? The ZIB used a file echo specifically designated to contain a certain type of file, and hatched a file into it that does not meet that criteria. They did so without asking permission of all of those connected to the echo and forced those systems to distribute it on to their downlinks. They "hijacked" the echo to use it for for their own selfish ends, without any regard whatsoever for the criteria set for the file echo nor for the wishes of those connected to the file echo. *THIS IS* file echo hijacking; the file echo was hijacked from all of those who receive it to force distribution of the Z1B's routing chart upon /all/ of those systems, and I'm not just talking about Filegate/Filebone-affiliated hubs here. This is the *exact* same thing as when a person continually posts off-topic messages in an echomail area and ignores the moderator's requests and warnings to him to stop the thread or move it elsewhere. In such a case, the poster's echomail feed to the echo is cut, and if the hatcher of these files continues to post this file in the BACKBONE file echo, their feed to the file echo ought to be cut as well. MG>> And I suppose now that those in the Z1B would *like* file echo MG>> hijacking to become commonplace? How about if someone suddenly MG>> decides to start hatching MP3's in the Z1_REC echo? It's the MG>> /exact/ same thing that they are doing. MB> Did you complain when an executable, outdated system configuration MB> file, or system stats were hatched into BACKBONE? If you are talking about the hatching of NOBOGUS, I didn't have to complain, because the person who hatched it immediately and publically apologized for doing so, and promised not to do it again. Had he not apologized, and had he /continued/ to hatch such files in the BACKBONE file echo, I most certainly /would/ have complained, just as many others at the time /did/ complain to him. The Z1B however remains arrogantly unapologetic for their abuse of this file echo and continues to use the file echo for their own selfish ends, and /that/ is the reason why I am voicing my displeasure. --- * Origin: MikE'S MaDHousE: WelComE To ThE AsYluM!
