Subj : Nodelisting To : All From : Michael Grant Date : Thu Oct 25 2001 12:38 pm And the bullshit continues... In most smaller FTN's, the *C's don't even list the nodes; they pass the applications on up the line, and the ZC him or her self decides where to list the node. The *C's and the nodes simply have to accept it. Funny thing about that sort of nodelisting system; you know, no one in those smaller FTN's seem to think that it's unfair, and no one screams because of where the ZC listed them. So long as they're listed /somewhere/ and they can participate in the network, the nodes are very happy. Fidonet probably started out the same way. Tom Jennings chose to change this, because he realized that through cooperation, much can be accomplished a lot easier and more quickly if he lets others list nodes. He likely hoped that the spirit of cooperation that Fidonet was built upon would be it's strength, and that the membership would work /together/ and not /against/ each other. Now look at the sad situation we have here. Jealousy over where a node is to be listed, incriminations and conspiracy theories and plain old insults. None of this stuff ever goes on in those smaller FTN's when a new node is listed, because there is nothing to fight over. The node gets listed where the ZC wants it to be listed, and everyone's happy. Why? Because everyone /cooperates/! If only Fidonet were like that again, perhaps we'd be growing instead of shrinking. By refusing to cooperate with your fellow members of this network, you are killing Fidonet. For once, why the hell can't the people from R12 show some small amount of respect for how others want the nodelist to be ordered, or at least wait and see what the node /actually/ wants before you start jumping up and spouting off your political views on what you think Fidonet /should/ be? Fidonet is what it is. It's a hobby network; built on cooperation and compromise, and respect. Remove that compromise and cooperation and respect, and you destroy the foundation of this network. --- GoldED/386 3.0.1-dam3 * Origin: MikE'S MaDHousE: WelComE To ThE AsYluM! (1:134/11) .
