Yes I have heard this logic employed before.

Are you suggesting that we should up end the nodelist so we can group people 
together by software? Hmm lets see:

If running a BBS, by BBS software?
If not running a BBS, by mailer, reader or tosser software??

Lets go further, if a mail mover, by binkp/FTP server software used, or lets go 
off the deep end and lump everyone together by operating system?

My oh my, wont that breed elitism.

Shared Interests?

Thats what message echoes are for..

Those not into politics and religion dont frequent those echoes pertinent to 
same, but rather what interests them. (as but one example)

Physical positioning in the nodelist is not relevant to shared interests in 
this case, you mention Synchronet, alot of people in net 229 use it, the author 
of that package isnt in net 229, why? His interests ought to be the same as 
those in net 229, they appear to be his biggest fans and motivators to devote 
time and energy for its support and development.

Both sides of this coin can be termed as vanity, but I submit to you sir that I 
have witnessed you share quite productively, interests with other sysops whose 
physical location in the nodelist was many many lines up or down from your own.
