If the UPS uses a 12V battery you can replace it with a deep-cycle marine
battery, the kind used with trolling motors, for a lot less than the cost of
the OEM battery.  They'll last longer during a power outage, too.  the guy at
the Hardware store tried this with his stoure's UPS and it works.  One of those
red-and-white battery boxes is a nice touch, and it does require a minimal
amount of rewiring becasue the battery won't fit in the UPS.
