Ok. Problem is that some Nets may not connect to all backbones for one reason or the other. For Nodes that rely on their Net for a feed and don't have access to Internet technology to connect to other backbones, that could be a problem. This might not be such a factor today, but it could be. In the past, it was a big factor in that many Nodes relied on their Net to feed them and what was available in the way of echos was the direct result of AS> As far as netmail routing it doesn't much matter who your link is.
