TC> I have kept track this year we have helped 18 systems get node numbers TC> or in some cases re-treads back from the dead... JY> This is sad. Not that you're helping 18 systesm, but that you can't JY> get help from others. Increasingly common. Can't sing about how everything's up to date in Kansas City if both NC's out there have left the network without updating their segments to reflect this. Even when there is a computer and a modem at the other end of the line, there are some very unresponsive NC's in many regions who hold the position just because the only other alternative was to fold their local nets entirely. Never did understand why anyone would incur the cost of putting a Fido node online just to walk away with it on autopilot, but there are NCs like that. There are also systems that never reconnected after we lost key mail movers. Losing someone of the calibre of JohnS did more damage than anyone realised. ....Apathy takes its toll.
