Have you ever heard the saying that "The Internet removes geographical and 
political barriers"? Well, in a sense, it does. I'm currently being fed by a 
node several hundred KMs away, and my NC is several thousand KMs away at the 
other side of the country - cost to me, zero. I'm already paying for the 
Internet pipe to my house, regardless of whether or not I'm a member of 
FidoNet.
