George Peace, quickly followed by John Souvestre, and later -> by Ken Wilson and then Bob Seaborn provided access to echomail and -> files via Internet connectivity. While this reduced their several -> hundred dollar a month long distance bills, it also wasn't cheap in -> 1995 to put in dedicated Internet access. Arguably their monthly -> expenses INCREASED! -> The choices were basically 56K DDS (~$500/month), Fractional T-1 (if -> it was available ($500-$1000/month), or full T-1 ($1000-$1500/month -> depending on where you were. This is just the monthly cost for the T1 and telco charges. Used to be $3K. Further out you are from the main location, the worse it gets. George was out on a farm near Harrisburg. ;-) And Metairie isn't exactly New Orleans. If we were located in Miami rather than Homestead, we'd save a few bucks being closer to the loop but more than lose the difference to higher rent for office space and commuting. ;-) And T1 service will remain steep until outlying locations have DSL availability. These days, the price gap between fractional T-1 and full has decreased to where it's almost not worth it to go with a Fractional if you are anticipating growth or sporadic periods of heavy use. It's the same connectivity but they cap your bandwidth, or at least that's how UUNet explains it. If you exceed the bandwidth, you get hit with surcharges. --- Platinum Xpress/Win/Wildcat5! v3.0pr3 * Origin: Platinum Xpress Support 305-248-7815 (1:135/382) .
