Subj : alternate routing chart To : Lesley-Dee Dylan From : Carl Austin Bennett Date : Tue Apr 17 2001 10:15 am LDD> Exactly how old is the last routing chart produced in Region 17? CAB> November 15, 2000. Not even REC17's own site has anything more recent. LDD> No wonder Bob is just so pissed at R12EC for hatching that diff file. LDD> He didn't have anything to say about an alternate routing list LDD> getting hatched until he saw DIFF.105 come through :-) I can imagine! The last routing info from our region is nodelist.103 of April 13, 2001. Even that's already out of date (just submitted yet another change today). Go back as far as November 15, and Ken Wilson would've just stepped down (two weeks prior), John Souvestre and John Woodward would still be moving backbone mail and Darrell would be holding both RC and REC duties here in Region 12. The nodelist would have about 1500 systems still up and running in zone one and a lot of other things would look much different than they do now. At the moment, data so old is of about as much use as a list of Studebaker dealers in Saskabush in 1950. Of historical interest, but little else. I therefore find it incredible that the sysops out west would want such a document distributed in place of up-to-date, accurate data. This is worthless. LDD> I just had a peek at it - all those errors in the list attributed to LDD> out-of-date info supplied from Region 17. Four end routes to systems LDD> not in the nodelist, and one route into a whole non-existent net! Half a year has passed. What else *would* you expect to happen? The routes would be recent enough not to point to George Peace, but that's it. As a network, Fido ages in dog years. What is 11/00 in "dog years", anyway? :) LDD> I'd be pissed too, if I got shown up for not doing my job that LDD> spectacularly! Understandable. That this comes on the heels of other errors doesn't help. LDD> Janis Kracht only had four tombstones in her zone independent segment LDD> - Bob has five tombstones in his! The ZIN tombstones are individual nodes; the ROUTELST.R17 problems could break mail to entire nets. No real way to make direct comparisons between these two. --- Msged/LNX TE 06 * Origin: Pause-Cafe Kingston 613-549-5599 telnet:cafe.dyndns.org (1:249/116) .
