The jury sentenced them to life in prison, but it did allow for the possibility of parole after 20 years; and the guilty verdicts will be appealed, so it's far from being over. (Iowa, where I am, is a state in which there's only one possible penalty for first degree murder -- life in prison without there being any possibility of parole unless the sentence is communted to a term of years by the governor; and that rarely happens.)
