Subj : echo descriptions in BACKBONE.* files To : all From : mark lewis Date : Mon Apr 01 2002 06:03 am * Original message posted in: z1backbone. * Crossposted in: z1backbone, z1_backbone, z1_echomail, zec, wwb_sysop. color me (slightly?) confused... recently someone asked about how to alter the description line of their echo in the BACKBONE.* lists... just recently, i was checking my own and noticed that the old description for a couple of them was still in place... checking my moderator update files and the elist, those descriptions were current and correct... my confusion stems from some of the replies that seemed to indicate some software automation was performed to glean the description line from the elist when creating and maintaining the BACKBONE.* lists... several of those replies were along the lines of "just change the entry in the elist" to "you've just done it"... hunh? automation or no? if there are no robots or software automation in place, why pretend that there is/are by certain actions, activities, and attitudes? i know ... it is hard to be a robot when one is only human... and by the same token, it is hard to be human when everyone is expecting a robot... it shouldn't be "this hard" for these things to have been automated years ago... what happened? where'd that automation go? did we loose some *nix system and its plethora of textual processing abilities that no one has replaced since the first time the 'bone split into whatever the heck we're calling the conglomeration now? )\/(ark * Origin: (1:3634/12) .
