errrmmm... could it be because newsgroups don't contain messages??

errrmmm... could it be because one posts articles in newsgroups and not 
messages??

BTW: please take a look at your code that handles i'net replies to fido 
originated messages... i'm not aware of anyone named mark.lewis in fidonet... 
just need to strip that dot out <<GG>>
