In the better newsgroups that I've seen, usually the poster states in his or her opening line who they are responding to, and quotes back the original message below. That way, it can be a bit easier to follow replies. (I still don't like the top-posting habit, though; some don't do that in the newsgroups, but a lot of posters do.)
