Technically, we just might have 2 Walmarts or a Kmart side by side. The real winners are the customers who have a choice ;=) RC> A little more prudence should be exercised when doing the gating RC> thing... I am all for Operating System newsgroups being imported and RC> that is the case, thanks to the efforts of both Dale Ross and Sean RC> Rima. The leaf node sysop can now do what use to be done by only a select few, remember Gigo. RC> However supplanting Fidonet style for Internet style, I just dont RC> know. It's not too tough with programs like IREX or Newsgate. RC> Smothering Quality with quantity is not a good thing, and if nothing RC> from Fidonet is put back in, welp. No doubt a lot of newsgroups are lacking quality and can be over kill in quantity and or spam. But not all echoes in Fido are pure in content either. I create no harm to anyone in Fido and yet make it as simple as just allowing a downlink to areafix the newsgroup like an echo with the same automation to switch it on and off. If I am not happy with an echo, I'll just un-areafix it. Same holds true if I get bored with a newsgroup. They too can be pass thrus here Just think of Baskin-Robbins only having one favor.
