As someone else pointed out.. are you sure you installed a good MATCH when you doubled the memory? What is the make and model of your motherboard? If you go to places like www.crucial.com they can help list COMPATIBLE memory modules that are suitable for your motherboard. Another thing that can cause intermittent performance problems is a harddrive having problem of it's own. Your scandisk result seems to point to that.
