 I have certainly downloaded and tested to much odd software from internet,
 a lot of them did not work ok. For example a program to check out the
 PC locked up the computer.

 I have an old PC that ticks along at 166Mhz. Doubled the memory to 128Mb,
 i have strong suspicion that factor cuased much of the instability. The
  specification says that is ok with 128Mb. Reduced the memory back to 64Mb
  and it seems that system is more stable. No crash yet..., but the primary
  harddisk, (Western Digital) failed, W98 did not boot up. Lots of read error
  with scandisk, the surface of track 1065 or so was totaly destroyed. But,
  the other partions was ok, so data could be saved from about the year   2000. 
So don't forget to backup your data!

 My computer is to oudated to run XP! Use it only for writing texts and
 surf on the internet and programming experiment. No need for more speed,
 thou scanning is rather slow.

  But there are some oddities in MS products, they should perhaps be tested
  more rigid.

 DOS, is enough for many tasks, no problems with stability, using an out  
market dated wordprocessor without mouse support. I does the work without
 any problems.

 But, I use rude language, for myself, when MS products goes astray. W98
 could not install a swedish keyboard layout. Must edit the autoexec.bat and
 config.sys, by mistake some east european language was installed when I
 reinstalled W98 after the hardisk crash.
