Subj : Lotos To : All From : MIKE ROSS Date : Fri May 13 2005 11:44 am Hi, I was running a small program that calculated the odds of Loto 6/49 and found that over 98 percent of tickets are losers. No wonder the governments make so much money with 6/49 and other lotteries!!! Here are the percentages from a simulation of random picks to match a winning number: Total of 4,180,686 tickets picked Numbers matched: Percentage of tickets: 0 43.58 1 41.32 2 13.23 3 1.76 4 0.0977 5 0.00175 6 0.0 (no winning ticket drawn) The losing tickets with matches of 0,1,2 totalled 98.13 percent. Amount paid out on 4,180,686 picks was 1,217,416.00 as follows: 3 of 6 735,801.00 4 of 6 408,453.00 5 of 6 73,162.00 6 of 6 0.00 Total profit was 2,963,270, not bad! Since this was done in a brief simulation we can now easily imagine what having a real draw twice a week and 52 weeks per year might add up to from a single lottery. i.e. hundreds of millions in profit! Lotteries really are for people who are bad at math. M*i*k*e ....
