I remember trying a similar product for my 286.  It boasted "windows" 
environment but resembled *nix features.  It settled nicely after bootup, but 
then it would lock up the pc at some point.  I don't remember the name of the 
program now.  But remember having so much HOPE that it would work. It seemed 
really well done.
