Depends who is defining "real" here. I define "real" as an
external modem with a serial port connector that includes all
functions/protocols within it's embedded hardware and requires
NO software/tsrs for an 'assist'. 

Linux does have a few winmodem 'drivers' but I'm not interested
in doing it that way.
