IF one stays away from External CD/DVD burners and Large 500K to 1 gig 
file transfers to the USB device one can live with USB-1 quite easily. 
I use my 256Mb USB flash drive frequently on a USB-1 machine, The one I 
am using right now. And I am happy. 
I also use my USB 4 gig hard drive once i na while. I just have to wait 
a bit longer for the files to transfer.
