I didn't buy any of them which means I can't know if it is
'really necessary' or just a waste of printers ink printing it
on the box.

Truthfully, no USB 1.0 was and is not 'enough'. It is a
half-baked idea rushed to market in an attempt to beat firewire
(and/or others).
