You are trying to install an operating system on IDE 1 Slave. You've got no chance of installing any system unless it has direct access to the MBR. If it is jumpered slave and if your bios will handle it then slave it to IDE 0. Unplug the master drive and see if it can boot the slave. If you can't do that then it's a tweezer job. Jump the disk master and plug the end of the IDE 0 riben into your new disk. Unplug all the other disks except the cdrom.
