Many of the third world countries are way ahead of us in the use of cell phones. Think about it for a bit. Only the US, Canada, and portions of western Europe had hard wired phone systems in place when cell phones hit the world. The third world countries found it far less expensive to have cell phones rather than hard wired telephone lines - take China for example - It would be almost impossible to string telephone wires over all their country and at what cost! Cellular systems are much less expensive under those conditions.
