Subj : Dead Phone LIne. To : ART TAIT From : JAY EMRIE Date : Sun Nov 28 2004 11:30 am AT>Jay, I once ran into a somewhat simular situation. I had installed an AT>extension line for my sister in law. In the process I had come up with AT>one might call a junction box in a dark corner of the basement. A AT>couple of months later, when we chanced to stop by, she complained that AT>the phones were not working. Taking my extension out of the system AT>fixed the problem. When I opened up my junction box it was full of AT>spider webs. After cleaning everything up and plugging in the extension AT>line, the the phones were back in working order. Apparently, the spider AT>webs had been shorting the wires together. Cleaning out the connections AT>is the only thing that I did. Could well be that you have a dirty AT>connection somewhere. Dont know if this will help but my heart is in AT>the right place (G) Art, thank you for your good heartedness! However, after opening all the wall plates no evidence of spiders was found. That is the only place spider webs could possibly interfere. One of these days (maybe) I will get up enough energy or curiosity to short out what I believe to be the most remote plug and do a continuity check to test for opens from the plug closest to the house input. Meanwhile I am going to enjoy the trouble free current setup - even if it is somewhat "unorthodox".
