Probably - might just be the connector.  Take your copious free time (us old,
retired farts gotta stick together) and open up the computer.  Check to see
how the drive seats, look for bent pins, etc.  Beats watching the rain fall...

They relate to disabling the Fast Shutdown capability of 98 and 98SE.  You'd
use msconfig.exe to do this.  Not sure it would show up in ME but I think
there was a registry entry to check in one of them.
