        Hello Charles, we were saying !

        Back home now and I got on the i Series 1300 Thinkpad to fix
  it. I do not know if you remember this, the CD-ROM device died and
  stupidly on my part, I had cleaned the HD, I forget why. Oh, yes, I
  wanted to redo the Me on it to see if it would pick up the CD again.
  There I was, no OS and no CD to reload it.

        I got the HD out, placed it into a slim USB case, copied W98
  to it alomg with Me Upgrade and got to work after placing the HD
  back in place. I went to DOS and typed Install and got W98SE going,
  then Setup for Me. All is fine now but... There is always a but.

        The CD still does not work, I slipped in 4 other devices and
  none was seen when doing a DOS boot and selecting " with CD device"
  it looks like the MoBo is shot on that connection. Strange enough,
  it will play music CDs (???). It will also show the data CD in there
  on screen but a blank page. So, in a way, it honours the medium but
  will not read data. Do you have a solution ? ( not hoping for much,
  am I ? )

        I was able to load all that I wanted using the USB way. I now
  have a floating 1.2 G HD dedicated to this and it is a way-around.

        Also, I remember a while back, that you had mentioned that the
  Me OS at times, would not shut-down. It did here before but now, it
  does not. I went to Updates and got them all, 60 so of them, but
  still the shut-down hangs and the off switch has to be pushed. Do
  you remember the solution for this one ? This is the Lady's Thinkpad
  and she would be happy this way, she only does e-mail with it and
  AOL runs fine, I am not happy and would not let this machine get the
  best of me.

        I got 2 CD devices on eBay, for the 1400 TP. After removing
  the plastic rails and a sideways connector, they fitted the 1300
  fine. Same results anyway. I wonder if MoBo are available on eBay ?

        Some of the sellers on eBay are adamant still on selling to US
  only. I still can not phantom why.

        Have a nice Thks-Givin. It has been quiet here lately on
  account of all these days off. It is our Canadian TksGivin, we do
