Could he just remove the card from the camera and put it in JL>the card reader? I assume the software is for connecting the camera via JL>USB. He doesn't want to install the software if he does not have to. He JL>likes to keep his hard as clean as possible, He is not one to install a JL>bunch of software. He has taken test pictures and insert the xD card in JL>the reader and it seems to work. He iis worried about damaging the system, JL>reader, card, or camera though. He says this is his first digital camera. JL>He not used the muti-card reader is his computer before either. Yep, the memory card uss a FAT format so you can read them using the card reader. I generally find that faster than freading from the camera although newer cameras with USB 2.x may be diferent. It appears to me that the camera manufacturer usually protects battery life by slowing down the transfer. Some cameras do require the full software to be installed to download images if not using a card reader. Others only require specific software to transfer the images while not insisting on loading every piece (our Kodak DX6490 and my Canon 10D) while yet others don't require a thing, using the OS' USB capabilities to have the camera show up as a USB hard drive (my Olympus E-10). It can be handy to be able to use alternative methods to transfer images should your default one not work for some reason but the fastest way is to NOT use the camera's port. --- *Durango b211 * DurangoMail for Windows NT/9x * Origin: Try Our Web Based QWK: DOCSPLACE.ORG (1:123/140) .
