Subj : UBCD4WIN Issue To : ALL From : ROBERT FOWLER Date : Tue Sep 27 2005 05:56 pm Hello All, I encountered a strange phenomenon recently, while attempting to create the UBCD4WIN disks. I though I would pass this along. Having both Home and Pro, I decided to make boot disks for each, since the system files are different. I followed the recommended procedure to the letter. The first disk was created from a retail copy of XP Pro, Autostreamed with SP2. It went without a hitch to completion. The second attempt was from an OEM copy of XP Home, also Autostreamed with SP2, and it would not copy to the hard drive. Thinking that the copy was corrupt, I made another, but still could not copy it to the hard drive, with either Windows or XCopy, and on two different systems. It would always return a read error for the file RTC.DLL, aborting the copy process. Indeed, merely attempting to copy said file alone from the CD failed. PE Builder would not read the disk from the CD-ROM drive, so it was obvious that copying to the hard drive was required. As a last resort, I put the CD in my laptop and used Xandros to copy the disk to the hard drive. This succeeded, and I was then able to complete building the .iso image and burning it to disk. I still have no idea why Windows wouldn't copy the disk and Xandros did. Regards, Robert Fowler ....
