Subj : Copying my family history To : TOM WALKER From : JAY EMRIE Date : Mon Sep 26 2005 12:04 am TW>JE>JG>Use of a digital camera is the same principal as scanning... TW>JE>Thanks, Jeff. I will investigate this. I hadn't though of that TW>JE>angle. However, taking a picture with my digital camera ends up with the TW>JE>same problem as with the scanner - getting the pages to lay flat enough TW>JE>to get a good image. Maybe the camera will have enough depth of field to TW>JE>somewhat overcome this problem. TW>Controling depth of field should be no problem. BUT the pages will still TW>have ot be Reasonably Flat to avoud distirtuon of the copy in the TW>Curves of the page near the center binding. That is a problem here. Were I able to hold the pages flat I could use my flat bed scanner. With a hand held scanner I can at least put a glass plate on the desired page and hold it flat so to scan. On the flat bed that is not possible - I've tried! If I could let the part of the book over lap the edge of the scanner bed it would work but the scan area is an inch from the edge of the scanner side.
