Subj : Linspire 5.0 To : TOM WALKER From : CHARLES ANGELICH Date : Sun Sep 25 2005 03:19 pm 123c78453f8f win95 Hello Tom - CA>> My point in mentioning those retail outlets is that CA>> Linspire has done a great deal to introduce linux to 'the CA>> masses'. More than most others who _also_ intend to profit CA>> from selling linux and linux software. TW> Yes they have. And they are the first one to Really pay TW> attention to the non Business user. Adn this is commendable. TW> BUT I stil ldo NOT understrand the limited Modem Support TW> since the Internet is such a large part of Computer work TW> now days. In the USA over half of all internet access is _not_ via a modem. In other countries modem access to the internet is even _less_. The prevailing 'wisdom' is that we should all be using broadband of one sort or another by the end of the next decade at the latest. And yes, I know that the charges for that access need to stabilize to a reasonable cost before widespread broadband will become the 'norm'. TW> Yes the prebuilt machines work but they also are pushing TW> the Software fro the Home Builder. Adn thing their hands TW> just dosen't make any sense. Particualrly sinde other TW> distributions can handle a must lareger selection of modems. To say that other distributions "handle a much larger selection of modems" is a bit of a generalization isn't it? As I recall it KNOPPIX connects but at only 9600 baud and the other (Xandros?) wouldn't dialout for you? What this tells me is that you need to intervene with a few _manual_ configuration settings if you want any of them to function properly for you. CA>> Even if we don't personally chose to use Linspire there is CA>> no reason to not credit them for what they have done that CA>> was right as we fault them for their mistakes. TW> Hey I have praised it and Pushed it and even shared the TW> FREE live linspire copy I have. I thought you told me you payed for your Linspire CD? TW> BUT that dosen't mean I cannot share the Problems as I see TW> it. Doesn't this 'sharing' of problems imply that you would appreciate some feedback? > > , , > o/ Charles.Angelich \o , > <| |> __o/ > / > USA, MI < \ __\__ --- * ATP/16bit 2.31 * .... http://www.devedia.com/dosghost/faf/thefrench.htm * Origin: Try Our Web Based QWK: DOCSPLACE.ORG (1:123/140) .
