In the USA over half of all internet access is _not_ via a
modem. In other countries modem access to the internet is even
_less_. The prevailing 'wisdom' is that we should all be using
broadband of one sort or another by the end of the next decade
at the latest. 

And yes, I know that the charges for that access need to
stabilize to a reasonable cost before widespread broadband will
become the 'norm'.

To say that other distributions "handle a much larger selection
of modems" is a bit of a generalization isn't it? As I recall
it KNOPPIX connects but at only 9600 baud and the other
(Xandros?) wouldn't dialout for you? 

What this tells me is that you need to intervene with a few
_manual_ configuration settings if you want any of them to
function properly for you.

I thought you told me you payed for your Linspire CD?

appreciate some feedback?
