Subj : Copying history To : JAY EMRIE From : JEAN PARROT Date : Sun Sep 25 2005 11:58 am Hello Jay, we were saying ! JE> 600+ I said 900 earlier - goofed again as usual. No way do I want to JE> type all this in! You did not say what size the book is. My work entailed full pages, the 8.5 x 11 type. Typewriten so there was a lot of words. It was done in French and I had a French OCR capable PRG. But there was a major problem. My Dad used a typewriter and had an old ribbon on it that had some broken fibre and it added some small streaks to some letters, this fooled the OCR and gave me so many errors that I could not use it. After I got it done in Word-2000, I could OCR the pages fine as the characters were sharp and an … would not be mistaken for a d or an o with a ribbon barb, for also a d. This could be a problem for you too. Alan Z. gave me a pristine idea, scan a page then still as an image, bloom it to a higher size to give the OCR less margin for error. It was like magic here. After this manipulation, I was able to dump it to Word in TimesNewRoman 11 and it was close to the same size as the original. I will include ( when I make up that parcel ) a copy of that OCR that will give much better results, it is 1 year old and way better than TextBridge. Which one do you intend on using ? I hope that you have this planned as if you keep the scanned pages in an image format, you book would be so "heavy", a scanned page can be up to 1 meg but in text format around 10 kbs. One more advice, do not give up, you will be quite haapy with yourself when you are done. Look at my site: http:\\members.aol.com\jparrot416 Click on G‚n‚alogie and have a look, it is in .pdf. I think that you ought to use Acrobat too and lock it so nobody will attempt to vary the "Master" document. I am not trying to talk like an expert here. ;-) Again in Kamouraska !
