Jean's suggestion of using a hand held scanner is probably the best way but it's certainly not going to result in a good quality copy. Other than getting it done professionally, I don't know how else you could do it without causing wear to the binding or pages. Before you handle those pages and dig around the book, go to the local pharmacy and pick up some medical gloves. You can buy a box of those throw away gloves, they're not expensive.
