Subj : Copying my family history To : JEFF GUERDAT From : JAY EMRIE Date : Sat Sep 24 2005 12:35 pm JG>JE>I have not been able to open it up and scan the pages - it just will not JG>JE>open up enough to lay the pages flat enough to scan with my flat bed JG>JE>scanner. The book was rebound sometime in the early 1900s - maybe about JG>JE>1930. The pages are easily torn. Tis a good thing the paper was of JG>JE>excellent quality when printed. I would like to make CDs of the book, JG>JE>thus being able to share it with my entire family. JG>JE>Does anybody have any idea how I might accomplish this? JG>I've simply taken pictures of such things which can be digitized (if not taken JG>with a digital camera in the first place). You can then load them into a JG>graphics editor to clean them up. You could then attempt OCR (you may need to JG>print them first so you can use the scanner) if you desire. JG>Use of a digital camera is the same principal as scanning... Thanks, Jeff. I will investigate this. I hadn't though of that angle. However, taking a picture with my digital camera ends up with the same problem as with the scanner - getting the pages to lay flat enough to get a good image. Maybe the camera will have enough depth of field to somewhat overcome this problem.
