Subj : Missing My Computer icon To : GREG EASTHOM From : JAY EMRIE Date : Sun Sep 18 2005 08:05 pm GE>.MSGID: 1:153/9.0 431dbd78 GE>JE> I have a laptop with W95 coming in that has the My Computer GE>JE> icon missing from the desktop. It is not in the Recycle Bin GE>JE> either. The owner has no idea where, why or how it disappeared GE>JE> to. GE>JE> Any idea how to restore the My Computer icon. GE>A few ideas from that thar InterWeb... GE>Can you still access it via Windows Explorer? Should be one step GE>down from Desktop on the left side. You can "create a shortcut" GE>on the Desktop if you like. GE>Is it somewhere in the Start menu? Nope, no such luck. The mystery was finally solved. Someone had renamed the My Computer icon to "Exit". It was in the midst of other icons on the desktop. After a lot of looking, trying all sorts of suggestions I noticed the "Exit" icon and wondered "What on earth could that be for?" Clicked on it and there was the My Computer data. Renamed it to My Computer and all was well. Thanks for the response. Jay GE>Was there any "Desktop theme" that was installed and removed? GE>There are (non-recommended) Registry hacks to make it invisible. GE>Try deleting ShellIconCache (in C:\Windows) and rebooting. --- þ OLXWin 1.00a þ Gargoyle (n.), an olive-flavored mouthwash. * Origin: Try Our Web Based QWK: DOCSPLACE.ORG (1:123/140) .
