A few ideas from that thar InterWeb...

Can you still access it via Windows Explorer? Should be one step
down from Desktop on the left side. You can "create a shortcut"
on the Desktop if you like.

Is it somewhere in the Start menu?

Was there any "Desktop theme" that was installed and removed?

There are (non-recommended) Registry hacks to make it invisible.

Try deleting ShellIconCache (in C:\Windows) and rebooting.
