Subj : RIP thinkpad. To : CHARLES SCAGLIONE From : JEAN PARROT Date : Sun Sep 18 2005 10:18 am Hello Charles, we were saying ! Well it happened. The old Thinkpad died. Not really so but at the moment it is supine. I was trying to update the AOL client and the CD would not work. I tried an ERD and it looked for CD support, said that no device was found. I should have stopped there and then. I thought that maybe the CD-ROM, a TEAC, was not seen at all so I tried to redo the OS on the Thinkpad by doing the rename to WIN.COM and Setup routine. This is on Me. Things went bad to worst and now as there is no CD device, I can not instal anything on it. I have an upgrade to Me CD and I would maybe have to reload W98SE to legalize the upgrade. I seem to remember that maybe it only asks to "see" the W98 CD ??? But eBay came to the rescue.... I found some TEAC devices for grab and grab I did, three of them for a total of $30.00. I do not know if these TEAC are weak units, this was the second one in there that went bad yesterday. Luckily, there are replacements. This is not the G-41 that died, it is the i Series 1300, about 5 year old by now, obtained 2nd hand on eBay and it has given very nice service all along. A hiccup only now ! It had been relegated to the Lady's use here. The G-41 is doing great. The HD from that G-41 had been replaced by a 40 gigger and I was using the original 30 g in an external USB case. It was iffy and I got IBM to forward to me a new one. I think that maybe you have read that story sent to Jeff G. Going to Kamouraska again, two weeks.
