Well, the main issue I see here with your particular circumstances, is dial-up. Support for the modem, with Linux, is somewhat academic IMO, with the newer distros, since the sheer size of many of the update files, mitigates against dial-up. I just finished installing the current Xandros updates for my system, and the download was approx. 75Mb. I would suspect that CNR with Linspire is quite similar. It's sort of a shame to have hardware that is adequate, but be limited by your internet connection. Regards, Robert Fowler ....
