Subj : Linspire 5.0 To : TOM WALKER From : CHARLES ANGELICH Date : Sat Sep 17 2005 08:09 pm 123c77cbed15 win95 Hello Tom - CA>> I can't say from hands on experience but the methods used CA>> to auto-install software varies from distribution to CA>> distribution and it appears that Linspire did not include CA>> a way to use other distributions software which is CA>> understandable since Linspire is a commercial entity CA>> attempting to generate monies to pay their people with. :-) CA>> For $19 a year I would think having a high level of CA>> confidence that the install would function properly is CA>> worthwhile. Linspire is aimed at novice Linux users who CA>> need all the help they can get. TW> I agree. Mostly as it is a Foot i nthe Door to being soem TW> positive press to LINUX. IT Linspire realkly flys, Although TW> sinde Robertson jumped off the wagon I don't know it it TW> will, IT wil be GOOD for the Computer wrold as it will be a TW> crack in the Wal MS has built arrounbd themselves. The existence of Linspire seems to have inspired others to forge on ahead and not give up trying to improve linux. The 'deal' Linspire made with Walmart to sell an inexpensive computer with Linspire pre-installed was also an inspiration to others IMO. More so than RedHat ever did. TW> I am sure there are lots of peopel that woudl "Jump Ship" TW> if there was a "Realistic" alterniative to Microsoft. Adn TW> before one of hte LIunx Fans jumps in Even Linspire is NOT TW> a "Realistic Alterniative" as yet. And it's failure to work TW> with my "Best Data" Hardware Internal Modeem is one TW> example. BUT it is a start and has possabilities. Exactly - it is a start. That Linspire continues to exist should be an inspiration. Undermining that attempt by discouraging people from paying for any part of it will only bring Linspire to an end and have the reverse effect. > > , , > o/ Charles.Angelich \o , > <| |> __o/ > / > USA, MI < \ __\__ --- * ATP/16bit 2.31 * ....
