Subj : Redo ? To : JEFF GUERDAT From : JEAN PARROT Date : Wed Sep 14 2005 11:30 am Hello Jeff, we were saying ! JG> We're only "stuck" if we stay with Windows. Voting with our dollars JG> is about the only way to attempt to make a change. Remember, I get most of my SW free, through an association with the builder. My vote does not count. JG> Yeah, I suppose an upgrade attempt to Office XP could be worth a try. JG> Dunno if I'd expect success, however... I gree that it could be useless if the files missing are in the XP\windows\system32. JG> I've only used this feature once or twice so I'm no expert. I believe JG> that restore points are wiped out if you turn off the feature and then JG> turn it back on. It may be that a repair attempt may also wipe them JG> out. I'm out of my league here. Is there not a Restore function if one boots from a bootable XP CD, this would be offered as an option instead of Repair or in the repair mode ? If there is, I did not see it or did not look for it. Serves me well. But the system is back up after a few frustrating hours, except for Office 2000. Baffling. I remember reading of this Restore option in a Langa letter. Would it use the restore points ? Useless then as they were all erased.
