The frequent references to using the usenet format to read FIDO
only adds to the existing confusion here IMO. There is no
_need_ to make this complicated. There are sufficient free
software packages available to use the QWK format without the
need for conversion(s).

As Martin has pointed out there is MultiMail (for Linux,
Windows, and 'others'). 

I use ATP for my Windows and Linux installs. ATP source code is
available and compiles for several OS. I selected ATP because I
wanted to customize my offline reader and I don't do C++ (MM
code). ATP displays look like you are logged onto a BBS and
that makes me smile at times (nostalgia?). 

Forget the usenet formatting and newsreaders and just use what
most people are using.
