Subj : Turn off autorun etc?? To : STAN BURKE From : JEFF GUERDAT Date : Tue Sep 13 2005 07:51 am On 09-13-05, STAN BURKE said to JEFF GUERDAT: JG> Finally, you can use this registry entry to do the same thing: JG> ********* CUT HERE *********** JG> Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 JG> JG> SB>[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Expl SB>rer JG> ] JG> "NoDriveTypeAutoRun"=hex:b1,00,00,00 JG> ********* CUT HERE *********** JG> Put these three lines into Notepad and save it as Noauotplay.reg and save JG> it. JG> Now, double-click on the file and answer yes to allow it to merge the JG> setting. SB>Jeff, tried that, as making a small reg file that I could carry and apply SB>to different machines sounds like the best way to go for me. But when I SB>did as above, and tried to run it, it came back and said not a vaild reg SB>file, not binary or something to that effect, how in notepad do I save SB>that as a valid reg file? Did you inclide the "Cut Here" lines? You should not. Also, make sure that there are only 3 text lines - it's possible there was word wrap in the message you copy and pasted from. One line starts with "Windows Registry", the second with "[HKEY_CURRENT_USER" (and ends with a closing square bracket, "]") while the third is the "NoDrive" one but be sure to leave the quotes as typed in the message. Worst case, send me an email (jguerdat at rochester dot rr dot com) and I'll attach it for you. --- *Durango b211 * DurangoMail for Windows NT/9x * Origin: Try Our Web Based QWK: DOCSPLACE.ORG (1:123/140) .
