Unfortunately, Microsoft's networking scheme with WINS and NetBIOS is often problematic, especially in mixed networks containing both Win9X/ME and NT/2K/XP computers. Rather than bother with troubleshooting the name resolution issues, a simple down and dirty work around for those using DHCP for their internet routing is to substitute the computer's IP for its name in the local network configurations, etc. If the requested machine's IP is pingable, this should always work, although the user must be aware that if the lease expires and the IP changes, he needs to make to appropriate modifications.
