JE> I will call Toshiba next week and hope they have a possible solution. 1) Remember that the screen resolution shifts several times during startup... at first, it's in the computer's default text mode (80 characters x 25 lines, I think)... the boot graphic is in graphical 320x400 mode. Finally, the display is switched to your computer's Windows setting (1024x768, etc). It sounds like something is happening at the times of the various resolution changes. 2) Many of the older Toshiba laptops that I've worked with required software to access the BIOS settings... check at Toshiba.com; they're pretty good (in my experience) continuing to host drivers and utilities for older models-- this should include the BIOS setup software. Usually there are both DOS versions (often included on a bootable floppy disk image) and Windows versions. I've found their website reasonably well-organized, making it fairly straightforward to locate the needed files. So check their website before you phone them. ....
